Client - Business unit of a Fortune 100 telecommunication company.
Presenting Business Need - The business leader and his leadership team realized that in order to achieve breakthrough business results, they needs to work more effectively as a global team. The team leader was based in Singapore with team members located in Korea , Taiwan , China , Japan and South Africa . The team consists of diverse cultural backgrounds, including Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, South African, British, and Lebanese Canadian.
Solution - An extensive online survey was conducted with the entire team. The team's strengths and weaknesses were clearly identified and business priorities (and gaps) were realized. We had several conference calls with the team leader before the training, in which the facilitator gauged what was required and to reach achievable objectives.
In a two-day "Global Team" session, we focused on key challenges of the team, team dynamics, team charter, individual cultural preference and communication styles, internal and external key stakeholders, and how to communicate with each other respectfully and effectively.
In addition, follow-up leadership coaching with the team leader was provided after the team session.
Impact - Participants later reported a number of benefits from their having been able to participate in this process, including the following:
- "Last year we grew our business by 82% compared to the previous three years which only grew at 25% year on year. Other management colleagues also experienced positive outcomes with this particular program."
- "The 2 day course was a great way to guide the team to look at their own performance and activities. Ultimately, I found the session had a very powerful effect on the team."
- "This 'Global Team' program had moved our team to a new level of performance. This has been evident over the
past few months as I observe the change in the team member's behavior and interaction."
- "There was a dramatic change in the cohesion of the team and the communication has remained within the guidelines we established with the class."
