Client - One of the nations largest privately held real estate investment and development companies, with more than $18 billion in assets.
Presenting Business Need - Fast growth and extensive acquisition activity had created a fragmented culture, and employees needed to be aligned with the common purpose and expectations of the business.
Solution - We designed and implemented a performance management system that gave employees "line of sight" and clarity between their roles and the needs of the business, and enabled everyone to channel energy into not only the right business results but also the right business behaviors.
We used a cross-functional Design Team to meet at critical junctures to help make key decisions, shape materials, and implement the process . An early step was to hold focus groups across the company to better understand what was working best and what most needed improvement. With that input, we identified needed system features and aspired outcomes, and then developed all operational and administrative aspects of a system that achieved these objectives.
Deliverables included a strategy for communicating this key initiative throughout the organization. We also provided comprehensive materials for cascading goals from top to bottom of the organization, and for managing performance throughout the year to align and motivate employees to drive company success.
Impact - Materials and processes were "tested" with end-users prior to implementation, and feedback confirmed that they system would directly address the needs and expectations uncovered at the outset of the engagement. The client was subsequently provided with turn key, "train-the-trainer" materials for holding workshops so that it would be self-sustained in continually ensuring employees have the requisite skills to set important goals, reinforce key behaviors and produce results to enable a cohesive approach to their rapid growth.
