Client - $900M technology company.
Presenting Business Need - Rapid growth and acquisition activity had changed the complexion of the organization seemingly "overnight", and it needed to establish its business priorities and competencies to serve as an integrating platform for its evolving people systems.
Solution - We constructed a "Leadership Blueprint" that defined the behaviors expected of all employees and gave the company a consistent way to manage and drive the people side of the business.
We conducted a series of "line of sight" sessions throughout the organization to establish clear linkages between the business demands the company faced and the implications for "leadership" at all levels. We combined the learnings from these meetings with existing information about the strategic intent of the company to draft a leadership competency model of behaviors that will most impact company success.
Through a series of online surveys, we further validated and refined the behaviors to construct a matrix that contained specific examples of behaviors needed for different levels and roles in the company. The Leadership Blueprint was then launched by the executive team as the foundation for aligning employee behavior and people development.
Impact - This behavioral blueprint made clear for the first time and in no uncertain terms what was expected in term of leadership behavior from employees across the company. Consequently, it was used to shape decisions about how to recruit and hire new employees who will have immediate success (e.g., selection procedures) as well as how to modify/build systems for sustaining high performance (e.g., training and development curricula, performance management).
