Experience/Background:
Joel Mausner is the founder and the Managing Principal of Workplace Psychology, a consortium of consultants founded in 1997. He is a business psychologist with a sophisticated understanding of organizational dynamics and workplace life, with 25 years experience as an expert in human behavior and organization development.
Joel helps leaders and organizations meet challenges, enhance performance and build capability. He advises enterprise leaders, coaches senior executives, trains managers and employees, facilitates team and organizational retreats, and manages complex consulting initiatives. In all these roles, Joel is dedicated to fostering learning and development. He does this by conducting productive conversations dialogue that gets to the heart of issues, navigates obstacles and conflicts, opens new possibilities, and drives to practical solutions. Joel is proud of his commitment to leaders and organizations to help them achieve effective and sustainable results.
Clients:
Joel consults to a wide range of corporate, non-profit and healthcare institutions and leaders. Major corporate clients have included WR Grace, General Dynamics, Philips Electronics, Fidelity Investments, and Sun Life Financial. Some well-known non-profit clients have included United Way of NY City, NY Public Library, Hudson Guild, Family Support Systems, Dairy Management Inc (DMI), and GovWorks (US Dept of Interior). Healthcare clients have included several large medical centers, such as New York-Presbyterian, St. Luke’sRoosevelt, and Montefiore, as well as other clients such as Brooklyn Pediatric Aids Network, Mental Health Association of NY, and the Mary Brooks Geriatric Center. Joel also sees many leadership clients in private coaching, including corporate executives (e.g., from Deutsche Bank, Price-Waterhouse, IBM, Apple, Victoria’s Secret, Lillian Vernon, Morgan Stanley) and other leaders, such as non-profit executives and board members, family business owners, small business partners, and solo entrepreneurs.
Joel previously worked at the Hay Group, a global human resources firm, where he specialized in executive assessment and coaching, executive team development, and leadership development training. He also previously served as Chief Learning Officer for the NonProfit Leadership League, an educational association of nonprofit leaders and consultants.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Mausner worked as a staff clinical psychologist in multiple healthcare settings, and he had a private practice in psychotherapy, specializing in workplace issues and career development. He was a Clinical Assistant Professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center for more than a decade, teaching and mentoring trainees, managing treatment programs, conducting staff and team development, and advising program leaders.
Education:
Joel received his BA in History from Yale University, an MA in Philosophy from Columbia University, and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the City University NY. He studied group dynamics at the AK Rice Institute, and organization development at the NTL Institute.
